Generation 2 - Chapter 5
Neil had had orders to grab the cake, but that wasn’t as easy as it had seemed. At first, the silly cowhead went backwards, so Neil couldn’t possible get to his head. Then the head came close to Neil. It was the first time he had a feeling this couldn’t end well.

Then the cowhead showed the cake again and Neil put out his hand to grab it.

And then it was all over. Neil hadn’t grabbed the cake, the cowplant had grabbed him.
From inside, Anna had heard the noises the cowplant made and a shiver had run on her back. She rushed outside to see what was happening. She was just in time to hear the cowplant burb loudly.

And then she saw the stone. It was a grave in rememberance of Neil. All of a sudden she knew what had happened and she started to scream. Basil and Beau came running outside, wanting to know why their mother was making this terrible noise.
When they came over to the cowplant, they saw the stone themselves and they heard Anna silently murmur “Neil, OMG, Neil, why has this happened? Neil, I didn’t meant for this to happen!”
The boys started to cry too, because they now understood it was their father who had been eaten by the cowplant. Hundreds of times Anna had warned them against it, but still it had made a victim.

They stayed near the fence until morning came. Then the boys went inside to gussy up and get ready for school. Although they had just lost their father, in fact they had missed him for a long time already. Basil and Beau were trying to continue life as normally as possible.
Anna stayed near the cowplant and the stone all by herself. She didn’t know what to think or what to do. This accident had saved her from telling Neil about the divorce. She was free to start a new life with Remington, but what would Basil and Beau think of her when Remington moved in quickly after Neil’s death. She couldn’t expect them to like Remington right away and to welcome him in the house their father had helped building. All these things were going through her head while she was softly rubbing the cowplant’s nose.

“I just need time,” Anna kept repeating, “time to think about my life, with Basil and Beau, and with Remington.” I don’t want to loose my boys, but I want to hold on to Remington too.” Her thoughts were going in circles, until she suddenly noticed how the head was bumping against her hand.
“Yes, I am given time. All I have to do is milk this cow and I will have a longer life,” Anna realized. She had read it in the instruction manual that had come with the cowplant, but she never thought about it until now. She leaned to milk the cow cautiously.

Then she drank the milk and she instantly felt rejuvenated. She knew she had time enough to sort things out and to talk to her boys and to Remington. There was no need to rush into things. This family was hurt enough by now.

In the next weeks, Anna designed a beautiful graveyard at the back of the garden and had it decorated. Neil’s grave was put under the tree and flowers decorated it. The graveyard was located on an island and a small wooden bridge led to it.
Anna spend a lot of time in the graveyard, pondering about her life, her marriage with Neil, the love for her boys and the love for Remington. Sometimes she felt so angry at Neil, at what he had done to the family. She could only scream at his grave and held up her arms in despair. At other moments, she just sat down or she cried silently over Neil and over her lost dreams with him. She only returned to the house to eat and sleep and left Beau under the care of Basil and a nanny.

One day, when Anna woke up, she knew the worst was over and started to feel like her old self again. When the boys were at school, she decided to clean the house like a white tornado, to rearrange the furniture and to throw away all garbage. Now that her mind felt clean, she had to make sure her house was the same.
Due to her doubts and troubled mind, Anna had told Remington that he didn’t need to come cleaning for a while. She would call him when she was ready for it. Remington understood how she felt and accepted it.
Now that her house was clean, she decided to hire another maid. Although Remington had done a good job, she didn’t want him to be the maid ever again. A fresh start, a fresh maid, she thought. Kaylynn would become the new maid. She already came the same day to introduce herself and immediately joined Anna in her efforts.
One of the things Anna discovered was that Beau had performed very badly at school and that his grades were very low. When he came home, she took him to the garden and started to help him with his homework. His protests didn’t help at all, because Anna was determined to get him on track again. All afternoon she helped her son and by that time all of his homework had been finished.

In the evening she sat down with Basil and asked him how he was doing. His grades were tolerable. He didn’t get A+’s any more, but that hadn’t much to do with his father’s death. He spent a lot of his time at the shopping center with girls. He told Anna how he met Tosha, who has blond hair and who is kind of serious.

And about Sophie who is more fun and has black curly hair. Basil thinks every girl is beautiful in her own way, but Sophie is a bit more special.

Anna decided not to have a mother-son talk about birds and bees and such. Basil was old enough to do as he pleases and he probably knows it all.
And how could she encourage him to be careful, when she is pregnant with Remington’s baby? She recently discovered why she was feeling so sick and so emotional when Neil died. It’s wasn’t only because of what happened to Neil, but also because the little human being that was growing inside her.
When Anna first suspected it, she couldn’t be happy nor sad with the pregnancy. She just didn’t know what to do. During her mourning period, she confessed it to Neil’s grave and waited for something like a punishment. When that didn’t come, she thought it was a sign that Neil’s ghost would not be angry about this baby and about her living with Remington.
She hadn’t seen Remington since Neil died, but this evening she invited him to come over and to tell him about the baby, his baby. When Anna had told him about the baby, Remington was sure he wanted to come life with her. He loved her very much and had missed her terribly. He had understood she had a lot to sort out, but he was just hoping he could come and stay with her the rest of his life.
Anna replied that as far as she was concerned, he could come the next day with the first available train and never leave again. However, she had to ask her boys. She thought Basil wouldn’t be too hard, but Beau might not be pleased with the new lover of his mother. If the boys would not accept Remington’s coming to live with them, they had to remain separate. Remington could come over to spend time with his child, but that would be it.
Although it was tough for Remington to take, he was too much of a family man to understand why Anna would make this decision. She put her children first, just like he would have done and he loved her even more for that.

When the major decisions were taken, some time was left for cuddling

and kissing.

And then Remington left to go home, unsure of what the future would bring to him and Anna.

Wow … talk about an upheavel! But I think she (and you) handled it well. :O) I hope both of the boys are okay with Remington coming to live with them … and the new baby. :O)) Great stuff!

Whoa, great update! I really like how you get into the mind of Anna. And I’m interested to see how her sons grow up! Nice job, this is becoming one of my favorite Legacy families!

Great update! I’m excited to see how things go for Anna and Remington. And you know, I’m starting to think that cowplant is cute in a freaky sort of way

Hopefully the boys won’t resent this new presence in their lives. Remington OR the baby. The baby’s totally innocent in all this and deserves to beloved, not resented. Great writing, thanks for sharing!

I have a soft spot for cow plants - I think they’re adorable! Love it when people include them in their stories.
And it’s so nice to see Remington in a story again! Feels like it was a long time since. I hope he gets his Anna eventually.
